Plate Camera, about 1900
This reproduction of a plate camera was made for When We Are Married. The plate-holder can be removed, and the "lens-holder" can be slid back into the case, compressing the bellows. The lens can be slid up and down in its "gallows" holder.
The bellows are really what conjures up the image of "camera", and these were made of letter-sized sheets of black paper. The trick is to create each side of the bellows at a time: score each pleat and score zig-zag pleats at the edges, before bending each side and assembling with white glue. From where the audience is sitting, when the camera is on a tripod it looks quite authentic.
